Nassa cornelliana was named by Olsson (1914) [TYPE LOCALITY: Duplin Fm (Pliocene), Currie, North Carolina. TYPE REPOSITORY: PRI, New York.].

It was recombined as Nassaria cornelliana by Ward and Blackwelder (1987).
