Liomphalus was named by Chapman (1916) [Sepkoski's age data: D Sieg Sepkoski's reference number: 362]. It is not extant. Its type is Oriostoma northi.
It was synonymized subjectively with Euomphalus by Knight et al. (1960).
It was assigned to Omphalocirridae by Linsley (1973), Linsley and Kier (1984) and Blodgett (1992); and to Hyperstrophina by Sepkoski (2002).
