Taxonomy
Omphalocirrus was named by de Ryckholt (1860) [Sepkoski's age data: D Eife D Give Sepkoski's reference number: 362]. Its type is Euomphalus goldfussi. It is the type genus of Omphalocirrinae, Omphalocirridae.
It was assigned to Maclureadae by Knight et al. (1960); to Euomphalidae by Morris and Cleevely (1981); to Hyperstrophina by Sepkoski (2002); and to Omphalocirridae by Wenz (1938), Linsley (1973), Linsley and Kier (1984), Blodgett (1992), Bouchet et al. (2005) and Wagner (2017).
