Taxonomy
Omphalocirrus was named by de Ryckholt (1860) [Sepkoski's age data: D Eife D Give Sepkoski's reference number: 362]. Its type is Euomphalus goldfussi. It is the type genus of Omphalocirrinae, Omphalocirridae.
It was assigned to Maclureadae by Knight et al. (1960); to Euomphalidae by Morris and Cleevely (1981); to Hyperstrophina by Sepkoski (2002); and to Omphalocirridae by Wenz (1938), Linsley (1973), Linsley and Kier (1984), Blodgett (1992), Bouchet et al. (2005) and Wagner (2023).
It was assigned to Maclureadae by Knight et al. (1960); to Euomphalidae by Morris and Cleevely (1981); to Hyperstrophina by Sepkoski (2002); and to Omphalocirridae by Wenz (1938), Linsley (1973), Linsley and Kier (1984), Blodgett (1992), Bouchet et al. (2005) and Wagner (2023).
