Scaevogyra was named by Whitfield (1878) [Sepkoski's age data: Cm Dres-u Cm Trep-u Sepkoski's reference number: 111,112]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Maclureadae by Linsley and Kier (1984); to Hyperstrophina by Sepkoski (2002); and to Scaevogyrinae by Knight et al. (1960) and Wagner (2017).
