Taxonomy
Martinioidea was named by Waagen (1883) [Nom. correct. Carter et al. (1994, p. 338) for Martiniacea Ivanova (1972), nom. transl. from Martiniinae Waagen (1883)].

It was assigned to Spiriferida by Carter and Poletaev (1998); and to Spiriferidina by Chen and Shi (1999), Shen et al. (2003) and Williams et al. (2006).
