Aglaoglypta was named by Knight (1942) [Sepkoski's age data: D Eife D Fame Sepkoski's reference number: 362]. Its type is Bellerophon koeneni.

It was reranked as Bellerophon (Aglaoglypta) by Knight et al. (1960).
