Liljevallospira was named by Knight (1945) [Sepkoski's age data: S Wenl S Ludl Sepkoski's reference number: 909]. Its type is Bellerophon tubulosa.

It was assigned to Liljevallospiridae by Golikov and Starobogatov (1989); to Bellerophontida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Bellerophontinae by Knight et al. (1960) and Bouchet et al. (2005).
