Taxonomy
Strangulites was named by Horný (1962) [Sepkoski's age data: O Ashg-l O Ashg-m Sepkoski's reference number: 797]. It is not extant. Its type is Bellerophon (Sinuites) strangulatus.

It was assigned to Sinuitinae by Horný (1962) and Horný (1963); to Sinuitidae by Runnegar and Jell (1976); and to Bellerophontida by Sepkoski (2002).
