Pecten aldingensis was named by Tate (1886) [TYPE LOCALITY: Lower beds, Aldinga Bay, South Australia (Paleogene)].

It was recombined as Chlamys aldingensis by Darragh (1970); it was recombined as Serripecten aldingensis by Beu and Darragh (2001).
