Cypraea eximia was named by Sowerby (1845) [AGE: Batesfordian-Bairnsdalian, Early Miocene-Middle Miocene]. Its type specimen is BMNH G9694, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Cypraea (Aricia) eximia by McCoy (1876); it was recombined as Rhynchocypraea eximia by Cossmann (1903); it was recombined as Gisortia eximia by Vredenburg (1927); it was recombined as Umbilia (Umbilia) eximia by Schilder (1932) and Darragh (2002).
