Lepetopsis was named by Whitfield (1882) [Sepkoski's age data: C Vise-l Tr Ladi-u Sepkoski's reference number: 362,797,1066]. It is not extant. Its type is Patella levettei.
It was assigned to Metoptomatidae by Knight et al. (1960) and Starobogatov and Mazaev (1999); and to Patellogastropoda by Sepkoski (2002).
