Spheroolithus irenensis

Taxonomy
Oolithes irenensis was named by Chao and Chiang (1974). It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type specimen is IVPP ?V-733, an egg, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Tungkou, Chiangchunting, Laiyang, which is in a Campanian terrestrial claystone/sandstone in the Jingangkou Formation of China. It is the type species of Paraspheroolithus.

It was recombined as Spheroolithus irenensis by Mikhailov (2000), Jackson and Varricchio (2010), Sellés et al. (2014) and Moreno-Azanza et al. (2014); it was misspelled as Paraspheroolithes irenensis by Currie and Eberth (1993); it was recombined as Paraspheroolithus irenensis by Zhao (1979), Yang et al. (1986), Fang et al. (2000), Cousin (2002), Zhou and Feng (2002), Jin (2008), Liang et al. (2009), Wang et al. (2012), Zhao et al. (2013), Wang et al. (2016) and Zhang et al. (2017).
