Ophryaster novaezelandiae was named by Fell (1952). It is not extant. Its type specimen is Canterbury Museum, Christchuch. It was considered monophyletic by Fell (1952).

H. B. Fell 1952 | Medium size to 50 mm. R/r ration between 2.2 and 2.5. Body stellate. Interbrachial arc concave and regularly curved. Short, tapering arms. Superomarginal plates block-like, rectangular in interbrachial arc to square in the arm. Numerous granule-pits evenly scattered on the abradial two-third of the abactinal face and a naked adradial border. 15 pairs of marginals per half-arc. Superomarginal plates abutting on the median plan of the arm. Abactinal plates extend into the proximal half of each arm. Abactinal plates tabulate, forming a tessellate pavement. Carinal row slightly differentiated. No pedicellariae-pits. |
