Taxonomy
Cyclonema was named by Hall (1852) [Sepkoski's age data: O Cara-l D Fras Sepkoski's reference number: 362]. Its type is Pleurotomaria bilix.

It was reranked as Euomphalus (Cyclonema) by Hall and Whitfield (1872); it was reranked as Pleurotomaria (Cyclonema) by Herrick (1888); it was reranked as Turbo (Cyclonema) by Paeckelmann (1913).

It was assigned to Euomphalus by Hall and Whitfield (1872); to Cyclonematidae by Fischer (1885); to Pleurotomaria by Herrick (1888); to Trochonematidae by Ulrich and Scofield (1897); to Turbo by Paeckelmann (1913); to Euomphalina by Sepkoski (2002); and to Platyceratidae by Knight et al.
