Comptoniaster comptoni

Taxonomy
Goniaster (Stellaster) comptoni was named by Forbes (1848). It is not extant. Its type specimen is Natural History Musem, London, syntype BNHM OR 34311. It is the type species of Comptoniaster.

It was recombined as Stellaster comptoni by Forbes (1850), Dujardin and Hupé (1862) and Carpenter (1882); it was recombined as Comptonia comptoni by Spencer (1905), Spencer (1913) and Spencer and Wright (1966); it was recombined as Comptoniaster comptoni by Breton (1983), Smith et al. (1988), Breton (1992) and Lewis (1993).

G. Breton 1992Disk pentagonal. Interbrachial arc nearly straight. Arms slender, elliptical in section. R/r ratio higher than two. Nearly 18 superomarginal plates per half-arc. Maximum width of inferomarginal plates in the interradius. Marginals of the disk short, wide, more squared in the arm. Ornament with dense fine granule-pits. Pedicellariae-pits common, oval to elongate.
