Taxonomy
Euomphalus was named by Sowerby (1814) [Sepkoski's age data: S Wenl-u Tr Nori Sepkoski's reference number: 797,1197]. Its type is Euomphalus pentangulatus. It is the type genus of Euomphaloidea, Euomphalacea.

It was reranked as Straparollus (Euomphalus) by Knight et al. (1960).

It was assigned to Straparollus by Knight et al. (1960) and Mazaev (1994); to Euomphalina by Sepkoski (2002); and to Euomphalidae by de Koninck (1881), Ulrich and Scofield (1897), Morris and Cleevely (1981), Linsley and Kier (1984), Bandel and Frýda (1998), Nützel (2002), Bouchet et al. (2005), Nützel and Ketwetsuriya (2016) and Wagner (2017).
