Crateraster multiplacus was named by Schulz and Weitschat (1981). It is not extant. Its type specimen is Museum der Universität Hamburg, Holotype SGPIH 2530.

M. G. Schulz and W. Weitschat 1981Small to middle size stellate goniasterid, with less than 20 marginal plates from an arm tip to enother. Disk relatively large, flattened. Arms massive, long, and regularly tappering. Marginals of the disk and arm of similar shape. A abradial side differenciated by a blunt angle from the rest of the external face of the marginals. Ornament of the marginal with regularly spaced tiny rounded tubercles and granule-pits.
