Michelia was named by Roemer (1855) [Sepkoski's age data: S Ludl-u D Emsi Sepkoski's reference number: 362,1206]. It is not extant. Its type is Michelia cylindrica.

It was assigned to Murchisoniidae by Knight et al. (1960); and to Archaeogastropoda by Sepkoski (2002).
