Taxonomy
Metopaster bignoti was named by Breton (1992). It is not extant. Its type specimen is Muséum d'Histoire Naturelle of Le Havre, Holotype MHNH 8426, Paratypes MHNH 8427. It was considered monophyletic by Villier (1995).

G. Breton 1992Metopaster of medium to large size. Enlarged ultimate superomarginal plates elongate, higher than wide, with angular profile and domed elongate development at an abactino-abradial position. The plate is in contact five to six inferomarginals. Adradial face of articulation small, oval, elongated. Intermediate superomarginal and inferomarginal plates low, broader than long or squared. Intermediate superomarginal plates frequently with an abactinal dome. External face delineated by a medium depressed margin. Raised central area smooth or with few granule-pits.
