Littorina macrostoma was named by Sandberger and Sandberger (1854). It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Naticopsis macrostoma by Heidelberger (2001); it was recombined as Paffrathopsis macrostoma by Heidelberger and Koch (2005) and Wagner (2023).
