Pseudophorus was named by Meek (1873) [Sepkoski's age data: O Ashg P Dora Sepkoski's reference number: 797,1066]. It is not extant. Its type is Trochita antiquus. It is the type genus of Pseudophoridae.
It was assigned to Euomphalina by Sepkoski (2002); and to Pseudophoridae by Knight et al. (1960) and Bouchet et al. (2005).
