Taxonomy
Ceraunocochlis elongata was named by Erwin (1988). Its type specimen is USNM 400710, a shell, and it is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is USNM702, Split Tank, Glass Mountains, which is in a Kungurian reef, buildup or bioherm limestone in the Cathedral Mountain Formation of Texas.
