Agathodonta was named by Cossmann (1918) [Sepkoski's age data: K Nc R Sepkoski's reference number: 615]. It is extant. Its type is Trochus dentigerus.

It was assigned to Chilodontinae by Knight et al. (1960); and to Archaeogastropoda by Sepkoski (2002).
