Turritella xylina was named by Squires and Saul (2006) [TYPE LOCALITY: CAS 69111, Budden Canyon Fm, North Fork Cottonwood Creek, Shasta County, California (Cenomanian). TYPE REPOSITORY: CAS, California.]. Its type specimen is CAS 69111.02 and is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is CAS 69111 - Bald Hills Mbr, Budden Canyon Fm, which is in a Cenomanian offshore siliciclastic/mudstone in the Budden Canyon Formation of California.
