Taxonomy
Araeonema was named by Knight (1933) [Sepkoski's age data: C Tour-u C Step Sepkoski's reference number: 797,896]. It is not extant. It is the type genus of Araeonematidae.

It was assigned to Gyronematinae by Knight et al. (1960); to Archaeogastropoda by Sepkoski (2002); to Araeonematidae by Nützel and Nakazawa (2012) and Mazaev (2015); and to Euomphalidae by Wagner (2023).
