Nucula tamatavica was named by Odhner (1943) [DISTRIBUTION: Recent; Madagascar.]. It is extant.

It was recombined as Lamellinucula tamatavica by Schenck (1944); it was recombined as Nucula (Lamellinucula) tamatavica by Eames (1951), Coan et al. (2000) and Huber (2010).
