Taxonomy
Nucula castrensis was named by Hinds (1843) [DISTRIBUTION: Northeastern Pacific (Recent). HISTORY: Type species by original designation.]. It is extant.

It was recombined as Acila castrensis by Ashley (1895), Woodring and Bramlette (1950) and Kern (1973); it was recombined as Nucula (Acila) castrensis by Arnold (1903), Grant and IV and Gale (1931); it was recombined as Acila (Truncacila) castrensis by Schenck (1936), Woodring (1938), Keen and Bentson (1944), Faustman (1964), Hertlein and Grant (1972), Moore (1983), Coan et al. (2000), Huber (2010), Coan and Valentich-Scott (2012) and Hendy (2021).
