Crocodylus megarhinus
Taxonomy
Crocodilus megarhinus was named by Andrews (1905). Its type specimen is BMNH R 3327, a partial skull, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is NNW of Birket Qarun, which is in a Rupelian fluvial horizon in the Jebel Qatrani Formation of Egypt.
It was recombined as Crocodylus megarhinus by Tchernov and Van Couvering (1978); it was considered an invalid subgroup of Crocodylinae by Brochu and Gingerich (2000); it was considered a nomen dubium by Puértolas et al. (2011).
