Calliotropis was named by Seguenza (1903) [Sepkoski's age data: T Plio R]. It is extant. It is the type genus of Callotrophinae.
It was assigned to Trochidae by Ladd (1982); to Archaeogastropoda by Sepkoski (2002); to Eucyclini by Kaim (2004); to Callotrophinae by Bouchet et al. (2005); to Calliotropidae by Bandel (2010); and to Eucyclidae by Ferrari (2014) and Cataldo (2017).
