Clypeaster maoadentroensis was named by Kier (1992) [TYPE LOCALITY: Mao Adentro Limestone (Early Pliocene), Rio Cana section, Dominican Republic. TYPE REPOSITORY: NMB, Basel, Switzerland.]. Its type specimen is NMB M9746, a test, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is NMB Loc. 17022 - Río Cana [Mao Fm], which is in a Pliocene marine horizon in the Mao Formation of the Dominican Republic.
