Clypeaster caudatus was named by Jackson (1922) [TYPE LOCALITY: Gurabo Fm (or possibly Mao Adrente Lmst), Rio Gurabo, near Los Quemados, Dominican Republic. TYPE REPOSITORY: USNM, Washington.]. Its type specimen is USNM 328235 and is not a trace fossil.
