Strombus oniscus was named by Linnaeaus (1767). It is extant.

It was recombined as Oniscia oniscus by Reeve (1849); it was recombined as Morum oniscus by Gabb (1881), Woodring et al. (1924), Clench and Abbott (1943) and Petuch (1994); it was recombined as Lambidium oniscus by Dall and Simpson (1901); it was recombined as Morum (Morum) oniscus by Rios (1980), Vokes and Vokes (1983) and Vokes (1998).

  • Morum floridiana was named by Tucker and Wilson (1933) [HISTORY: Synonym of M. (M.) oniscus (Linnaeaus 1767) [Vokes 1998].]. It is extant.

    It was corrected as Morum floridianum by Petuch (1994); it was synonymized subjectively with Morum (Morum) oniscus by Vokes (1998).
