Taxonomy
Fossularca januaria was named by Marwick (1926) [TYPE LOCALITY: Lorne, Oamaru, Canterbury, South Island, New Zeland (Kaiatan = Priabonian). TYPE REPOSITORY: GSNZ (now GNS Science, Lower Hutt, New Zealand).]. It is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is Lorne, which is in a Kaiatan marine tuff in the Waiareka tuff Formation of New Zealand.

It was recombined as Arcopsis januaria by Fleming (1966); it was recombined as Quadrilatera januaria by Beu et al. (1990).
