Taxonomy
Youngoolithus xiaguanensis was named by Zhao (1979). It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type specimen is IVPP V5783, an egg, and it is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is Houzhuang village, Xiaguan Basin (IVPP), which is in a Turonian/Campanian terrestrial mudstone/conglomerate in the Majiacun Formation of China.

S.-K. Zhang 2010Eggs olive-shaped, arranged in rows. Eggshell typically composed of 2 - 4 superimposed prismatic shell units. Growth lines undeveloped. Most pore canals curved and branched. Pore walls separated into small blocks near inner surface of eggshell.
