Clypidina was named by Gray (1847) [Sepkoski's age data: T Plio R]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Fissurellidae by Short and Potter (1987); to Emarginulinae by Knight et al. (1960) and Pacaud and Le Renard (1995); to Archaeogastropoda by Sepkoski (2002); and to Emarginulini by Bouchet et al. (2005).
