It was assigned to Sirenia by Hay (1902); to Trichechiformes by Hay (1930) and Kretzoi (1941); and to Dugongidae by Simpson (1932), Reinhart (1959), Scheffer and Rice (1963), Heal (1973), Barnes et al.
