Colpites was named by Knight (1936) [Sepkoski's age data: C Mosc-l P Guad-l]. It is not extant. Its type is Naticopsis monilifera.

It was assigned to Gastropoda by Knight (1936); to Platyschismatinae by Knight et al. (1960); to Archaeogastropoda by Sepkoski (2002); and to Naticopsinae by Wagner (2023).
