Taxonomy
Cyrtoma posthumum was named by Ortmann (1900). It is the type species of Platipygus.

It was recombined as Stigmatopygus (Cyrtoma) posthumum by Mortensen (1948); it was recombined as Platipygus posthumum by de Loriol (1902) and Parma (1989).
