Pecten praenuncius was named by Ihering (1897) [DISTRIBUTION: Miocene; Argentina.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Myochlamys praenuncius by Ihering (1907); it was recombined as Chlamys praenuncius by Zinsmeister (1981), Chiesa et al. (1995) and Parodiz (1996).
