Nucula limatula was named by Say (1831) [DISTRIBUTION: Gulf of St Lawrence-North Carolina (Recent); Quebec-South Carolina (Pleistocene)]. It is extant.
It was recombined as Leda limatula by Holmes (1860); it was recombined as Yoldia limatula by Clark (1906), Blake (1953), Richards (1962) and Hendy et al. (2008).
