Emarginulina was named by Goldfuss (1870) [Sepkoski's age data: T Than R]. It is extant. It is the type genus of Emarginulidae.

It was assigned to Archaeogastropoda by Sepkoski (2002); and to Emarginulinae by Marquet and Landau (2006).
