Eotrochus was named by Whitfield (1882) [Sepkoski's age data: C Vise C Serp Sepkoski's reference number: 797]. It is not extant. Its type is Pleurotomaria tenuimarginata.

It was reranked as Trochus (Eotrochus) by Martin (1884).

It was assigned to Trochus by Martin (1884); to Pseudophoridae by Knight et al. (1960); to Archaeogastropoda by Sepkoski (2002); and to Luciellidae by Karapunar and Nützel (2022).
