Gabrielona was named by Iredale (1917) [Sepkoski's age data: T Mi-l R Sepkoski's reference number: 557]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Phasianellidae by Weisbord (1962) and Ladd (1966); to Archaeogastropoda by Sepkoski (2002); and to Gabrieloninae by Hickman and McLean (1990), Wilson (1993), Pacaud and Le Renard (1995) and Bouchet et al. (2005).
