Taxonomy
Pycnotrochus was named by Perner (1903) [Sepkoski's age data: S Ludl-u Sepkoski's reference number: 1197]. It is not extant. Its type is Pycnotrochus viator.

It was assigned to Platyschismatinae by Knight et al. (1960); to Pycnomphalinae by Wagner (1999); and to Archaeogastropoda by Sepkoski (2002).
