Taxonomy
Ceraunocochlis kidderi was named by Erwin (1988). Its type specimen is USNM 400693, a shell, and it is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is USNM712a, Elwood Siding, Orogrande, which is in an Artinskian shallow subtidal limestone in the Hueco Formation of New Mexico.
