The specific name, arelela, is derived from the initials of R. L. Langenheim, Jr.
Taxonomy
Glyptospira arelela was named by Plas (1972). Its type specimen is X-3347, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is UCMP D-5252, Lookout Hill, Southern Arrow Canyon Range, which is in an Artinskian shallow subtidal limestone in the Bird Spring Formation of Nevada.
