Australoneilo casei was named by Zinsmeister and Macellari (1988) [TYPE LOCALITY: Seymour Island, Sobral Fm (Early Paleocene, Danian).]. Its type specimen is USNM 517006 and is not a trace fossil.
It was recombined as Neilo (Australoneilo) casei by Darragh (1994).
