Lepetella was named by Verrill (1880) [Sepkoski's age data: T Plio-u R Sepkoski's reference number: 899]. It is extant. It is the type genus of Lepetellinae.
It was assigned to Lepetellidae by Wienrich (2001); to Archaeogastropoda by Sepkoski (2002); and to Lepetellinae by Bouchet et al. (2005).
