Conocardium praepristis was named by Reed (1952). Its type specimen is IGS GSM 24147, a shell, and it is not a trace fossil.
It was recombined as Hippocardia praepristis by Pojeta and Runnegar (1976) and Tunnicliff (1982); it was recombined as Pojetaconcha praepristis by Wagner (2023).
